Sorting out the search: No chance for Stoops & Nutt?

Disclaimer: This post includes the use of the word Source or Sources, as such it should be taken as seriously as anything written by a West Virginia publication or the Huntsville Times.

According to a source, Bob Stoops will not be the next coach at Alabama. In fact, Stoops name has not crossed anyone's desk. Why? Because nobody at the University thought Stoops would be interested. When pressed about some of the Internet rumors such as the NCAA troubles, these were all dismissed. So, Stoops doesn't seem to be a realistic choice at this time.

Another name mentioned in a few emails today was Houston Nutt. I'm told Nutt is "respected" in UA circles, but he is NOT under consideration for the Alabama job.

I hesitated to write the post on Stoops and Nutt because who knows what is going to happen and it would be easier to just say the situation is fluid and avoid responsibility for putting this information out into the discourse. However, I do feel the information on Stoops and Nutt is accurate--neither will be coaching Alabama.

As always hold anything a "source" says under intense scrutiny and take it with a grain of salt. Throughout 2006, sources within the Alabama program have pushed a personal agenda (saving Mike Shula, making the administration look bad for firing Shula, etc.). Unfortunately, most media organizations have failed to use journalistic discretion in judging the reliability of its sources.

Thank you. How about this - can any of your sources just give me a time frame so I don't feel like I'm losing my mind? I can't sleep -seriously. My work is suffering - seriously. My wife just glares at me as I scan the computer at night - seriously. I've neglected numerous responsibilities in order to stay in "the know" but the fact is, I don't know anything! So, how about a date or a week or something so I can try to put this out of my mind!

No Stoops, No Nutt, No Spurrier, No Saban, No Petrino, No Rodriguez....

It is a continuous vaccuum of misinformation all over the place!

Take a step back and try to connect the dots....you can't! Take an hour to track planes...it's useless!

There is only one truth in this search...WE DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING FOR SURE! Period. Any of the aforementioned names could be the next coach at Bama. Perhaps, none of the above.

There is no CREDIBLE information anywhere. As of this moment, Tommy Tubberville is as close to being the next Bama football coach as any of these "candidates."

I say we end the speculation by not speculating. Your sources are no better than mine, and mine are for nothing.

Roll Tide and may Coach Moore pull the proverbial rabbit out of his hat...soon!

I have a question:

If it was going to take this long to find a coach, why not let Shula stay on and help coach the bowl game???

I mean, we are already paying him for it. Why not put him to use?

I think Larry Blakeney from Troy would be a great coach. He already has connections in-state and has done wonders with that program, since Div.II

We needed to fire Shula because most coaches don't want to talk to you unitl after there's an opening. We could have fired Shula and then asked him to stay on until after the bowl game, ala Michigan State.

EVERYONE !!!!!!!!!! Take a deep breath and relax. Fix yourself a stiff drink and get a good night's sleep. This search will begin to take shape starting Tuesday afternoon. In the morning check the blogs and tune in to Finebaum @ 2:06. Take a break......

Look,,The search is just now getting under way,,The headhunter is finding out any and everybody who would consider the job..From that info, Witt, Mal and other (BOT) members will make a list from top to bottom picking the top 3-5 candidates...They will do background checks on all and then make contact with the other schools AD if they are currently employed..

Currently, I believe we are at the breaking down of the list point and doing the Background checks and ranking potential coaches...

Think back to the hiring of Mike Price,,No one knew it was him untill the story broke and it will be the same this time...

Like I said before,,,

There are a few heavy hiters looking at the job and to me,,I still think its Coach Rods to take if he wants it...However, we are going to be set either way...

Look for next monday at the latest unless we are going PRO, then it will be longer...

The bottom line: Firing Mike Shula without truly having had a candidate in waiting will go down as a horrible decision. We will lose recruits. We will settle for someone not much better or worsethan Shula. We will not do well next year. Witt and Moore really blew it.

Why can't anyone in the Alabama come out and tell the real truth: We have inferior talent to the elite teams because probation decimated this program. We are not an elite program now and we will be a substantial number of years before we can even approach the status of an elite program.

Who cares if we don't get Nutt? I don't want him,he's one step below Tuberville in my book!!They can blow that idea up a hawgs butt!!

not having a coach right now is really killing us. The recruiting side especially.

If they are just now starting to interview and rank their options then i have 1 question. That the f>>> have they been doing for the past week? MM is money well spent, let me tell you. Is he a waste of space or is that just me? If they wanted to wait for the season to end, then they should have waited to fire him a little longer.

Every moment that passes that we dont have a coach is just hurting this program even more. Recruiting suffers, public image is suffering b/c the media is having a friggin field day, and the players have got to have a low morale.

Anyone disagree??

I thought we would certainly have someone lined up with the way that XCMS was "not retained". Anyway, I have to make myself believe that something great is in store. Otherwise, MM needs to go. If we don't hire RR, PJ, BP (these are the only realistic candidates that I see) Saban, Stoops, or Spurrier (just putting those last 3 out there but I don't believe they're really candidates) MM has failed. I said it! I some people are going to go "hey but what about they guy from Boise St., Wake, GT, Troy, (insert your own mediocre program with a mediocre coach, from a mediocre conference)". I don't care. We have name recognition, We have great facilities, We need a big name coach that can win. If we don't get one the coaches that have been thrown around then we're screwed. If we get some jo blow from Texas El Paso, our recruiting will be shot. MM - don't let me down.

First of all, I at least take the time to put a name to my comments instead of all this anonymous crap.

Second of I never said I wanted PJ. I just said it's not the end of the world if he's hired.

Third, it not that bad that we didn't name someone right away. All schools take there time to hire a new coach. Wouldn't you you rather them take their time and hire the right coach instead of the first coach available?

Fourth, I think Coach Kines is respected by the team and morale is high. The players aren't sitting around reading the blogs, their getting ready to play a bowl game.

I can't believe it jc say we should hire PJ. He must be a barner, or a mental patient, or PJ's family, or bumpjon is disguise.

Or, does he actually read stuff. Does he actually think PJ might be able to coach himself out of a wet paper bag?

The only reason I don't write my name is because for some reason it will not save it so every time I log on I have to start over like the very first time, not because I'm scared of your wrath or that your going to hunt me down and try to kick my ass "bumpjon".So here you go and don't forget it's.....CODUS,CODUS,CODUS.I've been on these blogs since before this coaching search started. There are people that know a lot more about this than me,and some that don't.I pay attention to the people that post on a daily basis and until recently I just saw your name on here along with all the second tier coaches you mention day in and day out.I just don't and will not accept crap coaches. BAMA deserves the best and should go after the best,we(not the fans) have almost come to accept lowered expectations and that is unacceptable. So,if that's what you want to keep suggesting then go right ahead and I'll be quiet if not in the words of Wyatt Earp "You've called down the thunder, well you got it!"

You don't have to have a blog. You can select other and type in you name. You can also do like sm or codus and attach you name in the text of your comment.

codus- I am not saying I'll hunt you down and "kick your ass." As a matter of fact it's quite the opposite. I to have been on the blogs for a while. It took me a while to figure out to attach my name to my comments. I do think it fosters more conversation if we at least have a name to attach to the comments. After all, now when I show up suggesting some second rate coach you now it's me and not just one of the thousands of other anonymous comments.

Now, nobody has explained why RR, BP, and PJ are "crap coaches." I know that they are not Spurrier, Saban, and Stoops. But if they don't come to BAMA, then who should we go after if not BP, RR, or PJ?

I honestly do not think S.Alexander is spoutting off at the mouth when he said that we are going after a coach that has won a NC.He is a good Christian, family man,who loves this AWSOME UNIVERSITY with every bone in his body.I BELIEVE SA,so that rules out Petrino,Johnson, yes D-II but he just does'nt fit the bill in my opinion(and if it is him I will be the first to cut and serve myself a big ol helping of crow)I also believe that the OZ-man has his hand in this search more than we know. They will not let us down this time!!I know and they know they have screwed up in the past and that is why I think they will get it right.I know as well as most of you, you can't believe anything you hear now a days but if you guys are on here and read as many diffferent blogs as I do a smoke scrren has been deployed successfully. We(or at least I)didnt know we were hiring Price til it broke in the media.Fran's dream job was A&M but he is a frickin panty waist THIS IS ALABAMA.The NCAA was breathing down our neck, just like they are breathing down Oklahoma's.Stoops is dealing w/rouge boosters, the basketball team is already on probation from Kelvin Sampson's tenure, and he wants to be known for running a clean program and when the University is found guilty of "Lack of Institutional Control" no matter how hard he tries it will be tainted. That's my plea for Stoops but evryone's guess is as good as mine.BTW look up www.hirestoopsnow.blogspot.com (if that is wrong Memphis Tider has a link)A lot of plane chasing which I think is crazy but I feel there are some good arguments.-codus

At first I thought long and hard about the Alexander comments. That's how I came up with PJ. I thought it was better than Coker or Erikson.

After thinking about it for a while I think SA might not know what he's thinking about. I know he's a good Christian, and I don't think he would just go spouting off. But, why would MM play his cards so close but just let any former player in on the deal. I think SA might have just misunderstood, or misinterpeted MM's statement.

“We will immediately begin a national search for a new head football coach. I am seeking a proven head coach with a proven record of achievement who can reach the level of excellence that all of us desire.”

We all know that the "level of excellence that all of us desire" is a national championship and what better way to have a proven record than to have won a national championship.

With that in mind we can assume that BP and RR are still candidates.

Jumbo Fisher doesn't fit MM's description. MM took a lot of crap for hiring Shula when he didn't have head coaching experience. MM won't go hire anyone who hasn't had a decent ammount of head coaching experience.

Sorry but Im convinced it Stoops. After checking the hard work done by the guy over on hirebobstoops all of the pieces came together for me. I posted this over on BOL and of course I was flamed. LOL.

I have to give my man credit over on hirebobstoops.com. All of that hard work has convinced me. But I thought of a few other things as well.

Smokecreen......

SOS was a smokecreen for Stoops. Why would he do this and be sooooooo generous with it? He was more than happy to save his close friend from the trouble Stoops is about to face AND set his son up as OC at ALABAMA! The perfect spot to groom Visor II!! You say why do that? His son will never see the money he could one day see at BAMA. Besides if it doesn't work out he can always go back to Columbia.

Saban?? The BOT have been driving this guy nuts. He's taking all of the heat Stoops would have been facing the past 2 weeks. Saban hasnt got a clue about whats going on. LOL!! No wonder he's been so ugly when Bama is mentioned. The funny thing is he probably WISHES BAMA would call. He would love for someone to save him from the worst mistake in his fickle career.

Rodriguez?? He's exactly what he's been the whole time. He's the back up plan. Poor soul.

Of course all of this is only my opinion, but I believe the folks at Tuscaloosa News know, what a loyal bunch. I believe the BOT has been jerking B-Ham and Huntsville around the whole time. Good for them. What have they done for the Tide lately? Damn Aubies have been trying to bury the Tide for the past 5-6 years. Everything they've reported has been wrong, wrong, wrong.

Finebaum?? Im not sure. Does he know? I dunno. I do know this however, today whenever someone even mentioned Stoops he was talking over them. He wouldnt let them bring up his name. He quickly called it spreading rumors.

Crazy? I tell you what..... read the blog over on hirebobstoops.com. Its free. Grab a pen and paper track the planes and tell me its ALL just a coincidence.

Dont forget about Nienas. This guys has had his hands on the hiring of coaches and athletic directors at 51 different schools. Besides after that Fran mess he sorta owes us one. MM you are one sly..............

Whew! Its Stoops and Im heading to bed!! See ya. Roll Damn TIDE!!!!
