Crimson Tide season summed up in one column

2006 season summed up in one dismal game

Cecil Hurt's column from the Tuscaloosa News is right on the money.

Alabama Fans & AL.Com Forums

Alabama fans posting anti-Shula comments continue to be banned and their posts deleted from the al.com forums. But Pro-Shula fans are allowed to spam the forums constantly.

For those interseted in FAIR & Balanced forums, visit tidesports.com.

UPDATE: Anyone have any luck appealing some of the decisions on blocking anti-Shula posts on AL.COM? I've sent a few emails and I had a friend who had posts deleted contact administrators. It SUCKS that a supposedly reputable website is banning posts because moderators disagree with the content.

Let Mal Moore know what you think!

According to this thread Mal Moore's email address is: mmoore@ia.ua.edu

It couldn't hurt to let the University know what fans think.

Also, maybe Mal would like to take back that VOTE OF CONFIDENCE he gave Mike Shula earlier in the week. I can hear it now, Mal will be saying he intended the memo to say it was a Vote of NO Confidence.

Worst team in the conference? ALABAMA

Alabama 16 Miss. St. 24

I've been sick all week (that's the reason for fewer posts). I should have taken that as sign for what this game would be like.

Wow. Just wow.

I was thinking during the game that upsets happen in college football. I can remember times when Coach Stallings or Coach Curry or Coach Perkins and even Coach Bryant would lose a game or two. It sucked, but you know sometimes teams are motivated and just play better and steal an upset.

Of course, (and maybe it is just the cold medication talking), but I'm not sure this was an upset. Alabama could possibly be the WORST team in the conference this year. It probably has the WORST offensive line.

If Shula does not fire Connelly, Unger and a few other offensive assistants this off-season then he is even more incompetent than some might think.

Can a big finish over LSU and Auburn (or just beating Auburn) be enough to salvage the season? I'm not so sure anymore. There may be nothing to redeem the utter horror of this season.

What is wrong with Alabama fans?

What is wrong with Alabama fans?

It is OK for New York fans to boo players, but it has no place at the University, but as the chorus of boos have increased this season fans are taking the negative attitude toward the players into other venues from message boards, talk radio and even letters to the editor.

In this letter to the editor published in the Tuscaloosa News, one fan defends Shula, blames the players and hits at some grand conspiracy between the NY Times and the Tuscaloosa News to distort the news.

While it is owned by the NY Times Co., at least the paper isn’t as bad as other NY Times owned publications like say the Gadsden Times.

The centerpiece of the editorial is really an excuse for Shula’s ineffective offensive performance. The writer, Glen Smith of Tuscaloosa said: “The obvious cause of our present lackluster season rests with the players, who have not lived up to historical standards.”

We’ve gone from blaming adult coaches who earn millions per year to blaming teenagers in college.
That’s not having class. That’s not even intelligent.

Alabama should hold itself to higher standards than just popping off at the players. Booing players (like happened to Darby on a few occasions) sends a bad message about the University.

We’ve got fans who say a blog like this hurts recruiting, how much more must booing players hurt recruiting?
In this case, the letter to the editor does little to hurt recruiting, but it does illustrate a growing mindset on the part of some Alabama fans, where they will say and do anything to defend this coaching staff, even at the expense of badmouthing players.
